Its not everyday that a tree falls onto a roof. This past Sunday we provided same day emergency tree removal service for our customer who had a tree fall onto their house in Reston Virginia. We quickly responded and had a crew and crane out the same day. Our crew got a late start but was able to get most of the tree off the roof. Enough for the tarping company to come install the tarp for the rain the next day! Our 33 ton, 35 ton, and 38 ton cranes were too small for this huge tree because the distance is over 90′, the tree fell onto the house in the backyard and crane setup had to be in the front yard. Thankfully, the neighbors let us use their driveway for best access. We also took down a small tree for them for letting us use their property to do this precarious tree job. We had 2 professional and local crane rentals companies come out to look at it, and both didn’t seem interested in doing the job. Both companies said that it would require a 500 Ton crane ! So we advised our customers to let us do the job with the cribbing method for large trees on houses. We have done about 3 jobs like this in the past couple of months. Basically, the way it works is you have to build up a wall to hold the trunk using 6×6 posts. Then transfer the weight from the trunk resting on the house roof to the 6×6 wall. It took nearly an entire day to build this wall. The crew didn’t make the first cut on the trunk until after 3 pm yesterday! The crew successfully removed the tree from the house. The customer is extremely satisfied with the crews expertise and ability to get this done with no further damage. A fence, backyard, townhouses were all at stake! Great job guys, you earned this one!
